Top National Resistance Movement (NRM) party incumbent leaders in Kotido District and Municipality are reeling from the aftermath of the recently concluded party structure elections.
Several incumbent leaders, including MPs and local council leaders, were trounced while others survived narrowly in the hotly contested elections.
Among the prominent leaders who lost to little-known challengers are the Jie County Member of Parliament Peter Abrahams Lokii, Kotido Municipality MP Ismael Muhammad Lomwar, and Paul Lote Komol, Kotido LCV Chairperson.
Dr. Paul Lochap beat Peter Abraham Lokwii for the position of NRM chairperson of Kotido District with 273 votes against 257 votes.

Kotido Municipality Member of Parliament Ismael Muhammad Lomwar lost the position of Vice Chairperson to Josephine Irwata, the Vica Chairperson LCIII, Lokitelaebu sub-county by a margin of 18 votes.
Irwata was declared winner by the NRM district registrar John Paul Namuya, after polling 273 votes against Lomwar’s 251 votes.

In another sting defeat, Paul Lote Komol, the Kotido District LCV chairperson, lost the position of General Secretary to Charles Emuge after polling 257 votes against 274 votes.
The elections, characterized by chaos, saw Aaron Ananias Ilukol and Emmanuel Keem (Napuso), Dr. Lochap’s loyalists, elected as Secretary of Publicity and Secretary of Finance, respectively.
In Workers League elections, Isaiah Keno Lodou emerged unopposed as chairperson and is deputized by John Modo.
Other members of that constitute the League executive include Allan Ongom (General Secretary), Charles Kapel (Secretary Publicity), and John Bosco Opolot (Secretary of Finance).
Bena Akorio Olwer was elected chairperson Youth League with 48 votes against Mario Logwang’s 45 votes.
She will be deputized by Naska Joyce Locham, who garnered 48 votes, beating Francis Komol who polled 45 votes.
Jonah Chris Loya, Isa Pedo Meron, and Joseph Lochoro were elected as General Secretary, Secretary of Publicity, and Secretary of Finance, respectively.
In the Women’s League elections, Judith Natuk was declared chairperson, Sylivia Naiki (Vice Chairperson), Grace Akol (General Secretary), and Cecilia Dodoi (Secretary of Publicity).
Meanwhile, Jie County former MP Moses Adome Bildad, locked horns with Peter Lonya, the incumbent LC3 Chairperson of West Division, for NRM chairmanship Kotido Municipality.
Lonya, emerged victorious after polling 79 votes against Adome’s 74 votes in an election marred by protests and live bullets. Sean Paul Kiyonga won the position of General Secretary.

Kotido District Woman Member of Parliament Margaret Aleper Achilla, though sailed through unopposed as the Secretary of Finance for NRM mainstream in Kotido Municipality.
With the party structure elections done, the focus now for the newly elected leaders is to amend broken ties and foster unity among the party members.
