Security authorities in Kotido District have announced plans to convene a crucial meeting with political figures to address tensions and prevent violence stemming from the ongoing National Resistance Movement (NRM) internal elections and in anticipation of the upcoming general elections.
Although a date for the meeting is yet to be set, the initiative follows growing concerns over electoral security in the district.
Since the commencement of NRM party primaries, a number of violent scenes have been reported in Kotido including cases of knife wielding men in Rengen Sub County.
The district has also witnessed numerous factions engaging in altercations, some resulting in injuries and prompting ongoing police investigations.
Now, the Kotido Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Charles Ichogor, has revealed that they are going to discuss the matter and come up with appropriate measures for peaceful campaigns and polls during this electioneering period.
During the peace prayers at Kanair Sub County over the weekend, Mateo Lokech, a resident there appealed for decisive action from leaders to tackle the escalating challenges, stressing the urgent need for collective effort to maintain peace.
