The people of Karenga District will have to wait a little longer for the final declaration of the long-awaited results of the recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for parliamentary flag bearers.
This is after the NRM Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, called off a planned meeting with all the candidates due to primaries for City Mayor, LCV chairpersons, and City and LCV Councilors flag bearers.
Recently, Dr. Odoi, summoned all the NRM political actors from Karenga to the party’s secretariat Kyadondo for an urgent meeting to resolve issues surrounding delayed declaration of results.
The move follows a string of violent protests by supporters across the district over delayed pronouncement of results for District Woman Member of Parliament, Napore West and Dodoth West constituencies, which has sparked concerns about credibility of the final results.
Tensions flared on Saturday July 19, 2025, when a group of angry supporters stormed the Women’s Community Hall, where the party officials were tallying the votes from demanding an explanation as to why they failed to declare the winners two days after the elections.
Frustrations came to a head when rumors swirled regarding cancellation of results from the Sub Counties of Lobalangit and Kakwanga, triggering protests and demonstrations from various factions demanding transparency and fairness.
On Sunday, July 20, 2025, the district security committee led by the RDC Geoffrey Filbert Ocailap, suspended the declaration of the results and deferred it to the party’s Electoral Commission.
However, Dr. Tanga Odoi, told Etoil A Karamoja on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, that the winners will be announced after the investigations into the alleged irregularities are concluded.
