The newly promoted police officers from Kidepo Region have been tasked to embrace the culture of professionalism and ethical conduct while carrying out their duties.
The recent nationwide promotions by the Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba, resulted in 42 police officers from the Kidepo Region being promoted to higher ranks.
Thirty-two officers were promoted from the rank of Police Constable to Corporal, while one officer was promoted to Corporal from Station Sergeant.
In addition, three officers were promoted from Sergeant to Head Constable Major, and one officer was elevated from Sergeant to Assistant Inspector of Police.
Speaking during the piping ceremony held at Kotido Youth Centre on Wednesday, Ssekalema Hussein, the Kotido District Police Commander (DPC), stressed the need for the promoted officers to uphold rule of law while maintaining integrity, transparency and accountability in service.
He warned that officers who fail to meet expectations risk being stripped of their ranks.
Ochama Denis, Regional Police Commander (RPC), remaindered the officer that the promotion was not just to recognize commitment, and a clean service record, but it’s a call for greater service, responsibility, and leadership.
He urged them to uphold justice and be a source of hope to every citizen of the country.
“Our merit-based approach in promotion exercise fosters a culture of professionalism and dedication within our ranks and we should commit to upholding this standard,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the Kotido Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Charles Ichogor, who officiated the piping ceremony cautioned the men and women in uniform against alcoholism.
Ichogor explained that alcohol consumption impairs officer’s ability to perform their duties effectively.
