Vice President Jessica Alupo has commended the renewed unity within the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU), particularly following the recent withdrawal of a four-year court case challenging the election of Sande Paul Emolot Etomeileng as Emorimor Papa Iteso, replacing late Augustine Osuban Lemukol.
In October 2022, Alloch, then chairperson of the Iteso House of Elders, along with others, submitted a petition to the Soroti High Court contesting the election of Sande Paul Emolot as Emorimor Papa Iteso, alleging irregularities in the electoral process.
The petitioners contended that the election did not adhere strictly to the established procedures of the Iteso Cultural Union and sought a nullification of the results.
However, after several months of mediation, both parties reached an agreement to resolve their differences amicably and withdraw the case, heralding a new era of cooperation within the cultural institution.
Emmy Geoffrey Sayekwo, the Deputy Registrar of the Soroti High Court and chair of the mediation committee, confirmed that the issues raised by the aggrieved parties were resolved comprehensively through internal dialogue.
Expressing her gratitude for this reconciliation, Vice President Alupo remarked that “blessed are the peacemakers,” asserting that this newfound unity will further the Teso agenda, mitigate conflicts, and encourage the government to heed the concerns of the Iteso, as they collectively pursue a unified agenda for all.
She urged all institutions, including political, cultural, and religious organizations, to emulate this spirit of collaboration, which will strengthen their endeavors and produce favorable results.
