The Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) has been extolled for its vigorous role in pacifying Karamoja, a region that faced turmoil and unrest due to cattle raids orchestrated by the armed cattle rustlers.

Speaking at the retirement ceremony of 82 low-ranking UPDF soldiers held in Moroto on Wednesday, Ismail Mohammed, the mayor of Moroto municipality, said that the ongoing disarmament operation code named “Usalama Kwa Wote” has helped improve the security and stability in the region.

Mohammed noted that the current prevailing peace in the region has allowed the population to engage in productive activities, such as agriculture, helping to address food insecurity.
