Uganda is to hold National Requiem Mass for Pope Francis on Friday 25th April, 2025at Rubaga Cathedral, ahead of his burial on Saturday.

Pope Francis who was the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, died at 07:35 local time on Easter Monday, according to the statement issued by be Cardinal Kevin Ferrell, the Vatican camerlengo.

His demise has spent shocking waves throughout the globe.

In Uganda, a country where Catholicism is deeply rooted, his passing has sparked nationwide mourning and prayer vigils.

Religious leaders have described the Pope as a unifying figure who spoke passionately about peace, Social justice and care for the marginalized groups.

In a statement signed by Msgr John Baptist Kauta on Wednesday 23rd April, 2025, the chairman of Uganda Episcopal Conference, Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa, all Catholics and non-Catholics alike are invited for the Requiem Mass for his Holiness Pope Francis that will be celebrated at Rubaga Cathedral on Friday 25th, 2025 at 12:00pm.

The Mass meant to honour the life and service of Pope Francis, will be led by Bishops under the Uganda Episcopal Conference and thousands of Catholics across the country, including government dignitaries, clergy, member of religious Orders and lay faithful are expected to be in attendance.

Friday Requiem Mass will be more than a religious ceremony it will be a national moment of unity gratitude, and farewell to a Pope whose influence reached far beyond Vatican.
