Police in Kotido district have arrested two men over violent clashes resulting from a land dispute between communities of Lopedur Cell in Central Division and Kadokini, Cell in South Division, Kotido Municipality.
The incidents happened Tuesday at Napeet farming area where the two communities had reportedly met to resolve the dispute. But before the commencement of the meeting, some of the members, who reportedly drank before the meeting, started fighting each other.
During the fight, six people were severely injured while others survived with minor injuries.
Faizo Balyejjusa, the OC CID Kotido district says that the two suspects arrested have been charged with attempted murder.
He, however, warned residents against selling land which he noted is one of the factors fueling land wrangle in the communities.
Kalisto Ilukol Apakwan commended the police for the swift response noting that the chaos would be tragic if there were any delays from the security team.
