The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has recovered two guns during a security Baraza held on Thursday at Napumpum sub-county in Kotido district.
The guns were voluntarily handed over by individuals who had been holding them illegally, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to pacify the region.

The security Barraza, which brought together local leaders, security personnel, and community members, provided a platform for dialogue and cooperation.
Lieutenant Gaston Mugarura, the 405 brigade commander said through open discussions and negotiations, the UPDF was able to persuade the gun owners to surrender their firearms, demonstrating the power of community engagement and dialogue in resolving security challenges.
Brigadier General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, the 3rd Division Commander, who received the guns, urged the Karachunas to be ambassadors of peace and change in the community.
Caro Angolore, the senior presidential advisor and mobilizer in Karamoja urged the Karachunas to substitute raid with agriculture which she noted is peaceful and lucrative.
