Police in Kira Road Police Station have arrested two suspects in connection to the mysterious death of Martha Ahumuza.
The police identified the duo as Edward Mugabo (alias Eddie) a cashier at Mezo Noir nightclub in Kololo, Kampala and Joseph Kalenzi, a brother to the deceased.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patrick Onyango, confirms their arrest, noting that they are currently being held at Kira Road Police Station while the investigations into the case are underway.
He says that the preliminary investigations reveal that Martha Ahumuza mysteriously collapsed and later died on Wednesday night after suspected poisoning.
Onyango, adds that according to sources the victim met her friend, Edward Mugabo (alias Eddie), a cashier at the bar, around 2:00am.
“They reportedly drank together until 3:30am, before moving to the manager’s office, which lacks CCTV coverage but shortly after reaching the office, Martha collapsed inside the office, leading Mugabo to contact his brother, Joseph Kalenzi”, explains Onyango.
The duo then rushed her to Kampala Hospital, where she was placed on life support but passed away shortly after.
In response to the incident, Onyango says Mezo Noir night club has temporarily closed, citing “unforeseen circumstances,” and promised to provide an update on its reopening.
Martha Ahumuza., born on December 13, 2002, is a daughter of Seth Murari, the Presidential Adviser on Sports.
