At least three people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a fatal car crash involving a bus belonging to YY Bus Company, according to URN
URN reports that the accident involving a bus, Reg No UAV 701C, reportedly occurred on Monday at around 4:30pm along Kisoga-Nyenga road in Buikwe District.
The bus which was carrying unknown number of passengers was coming from Katosi side to Mbale and upon reaching at Makindu village, it lost control and over turned.
Hellen Butoto, the Police Spokesperson for Sezibwa region, said that three people have been confirmed dead and 30 injured.
She adds that the injured are admitted at Kawolo Hospital, St Francis Lwanga Hospital.
According to Butoto, they are yet to establish the identities of the dead since the bodies were burned beyond recognition. She added that investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
Survivors’ accounts.
Moses Kigonyo, one of the survivors, attributed the accident to over speeding and a near-collision with a motorcycle.
“The driver was speeding,” he said.” When we reached Makindu, there was a boda-boda carrying firewood. the driver tried to dodging him, but in the process, but the busy veered off the road, plugged into a trench, and overturned several times”.
Other witnesses collaborated Kigonyo’s version of the crash, saying the bus driver swerved sharply to avoid hitting to the motorcycle rider.
That split-second decision, they said, sent the vehicle tumbling off the tarmac before it caught fire.
The residents blamed the poor state of the road, which they say is riddled with gaping potholes despite being constructed less than four years ago.

According to the 2024 Police Crime Report, Uganda recorded 25,107 road crashes last year. Motorcyclists remain the most vulnerable, with 1,720 deaths reported.
Speeding and careless overtaking continue to be top causes of fatal accidents.
The police have launched a formal investigation into the Buikwe crash. Meanwhile the nation mourns yet another loss of lives on its roads.
