Police in Napak district have arrested three people in a thwarted planned demonstration by over 150 individuals suspected to be supporters of Stella Namoe, one of the aspirants for Woman Member of Parliament in the recent NRM primaries.

Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto/ASTU Spokesperson said the group staged a protest in Matany Town Council on Saturday at around 2:30 PM, against the NRM primary election results.

He explained that the protesters had a meeting with Namoe at her residence before they took to the streets to demonstrate, carrying placards.

However, the demonstration didn’t last long as the police quickly swung into action and managed to thwart it, resulting in the arrest of three protesters.

Longole revealed that the suspects identified as Iraman Lucy, Lotimong Racho, and Lokiduk Christine are currently held at Napak Central Police Station for further interrogation.

Efforts to get a comment from Stella Namoe regarding whether she had a meeting with the protesters were futile by press time, as her known telephone number was not available.

While acknowledging the constitutional right to peaceful demonstration, Longole urged the public to exercise this right in accordance with the law.
