KAABONG: A joint security operation by the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has led to the arrest of a suspected notorious cattle rustler and impoundment of 95 head of cattle in Kaabong district.
The suspect has been identified as Koryang Loteng, a resident of Moru-ngikamar Village, Kathile Sub-county was arrested on Monday July 20, 2026.
Police say during interrogation, Loteng admitted to owning firearm, which he shares with another suspect identified as Lowanyang Koryang, a resident of Lokwakaramoe Village, Kathile Sub-county, Kaabong District, who is currently on run.
Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police/ASTU Spokesperson said that following the revelation, a joint force of ASTU and UPDF personnel conducted an operation in Lobatou village on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at around 7:00 p.m and impounded 95 heads of cattle belonging to the community.
Longole observed that the impoundment is meant to compel the suspects to surrender the illegal firearm.
He added that the cattle have been taken into safe custody pending the surrender of the gun and conclusion of investigations.
Longole appealed to the members of the public to volunteer any information regarding illegal firearms to the nearest security agencies.
