Kotido district is set to pay Ex-gratia for councilors and LCI and LCII chairpersons which have accumulated for more than four years.
Councilors and LCs have been demanding a total of 785 million shillings in unpaid allowances accumulated over four consecutive financial years, from 2018/2019 to 2021/2022.
These arrears encompass payments for both current and former council representatives who did not secure re-election.
While confirming the receipt of the 503.4 million shillings and the district’s readiness to commence payments this week, Kotido Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Donato Oola acknowledged the financial strain that prevented timely disbursement.
Former councilor John Paul Logira, also known as Small Jesus, who is not part of the current council, cautiously welcomed the development.
However, he indicated that his full appreciation would only come upon receiving his ex-gratia.
He stated that their outstanding claims stretched back to 2016, a claim Etoil A Karamoja could not independently verify.
According to the CAO, Donato Oola, the district suffered financial constraints to clear the arrears on time.
