A police constable identified as Isaac Ogira, attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Moroto zonal headquarters, died on the spot on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, after a head-on collision along the Moroto-Soroti Highway.

Police said the crash happened opposite Yaobai Cement Factory in Nadunget Sub-County, Moroto district at around 3:30 p.m.

Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, said in a statement that the deceased was on his way to Moroto town on a motorcycle, Reg. No. UP 8113 Yamaha YBR blue in color, from Nadunget police barracks when he collided head-on with a trailer, Reg. No. UA 783EZ Chackman, white in color, belonging to Yaobai Cement Factory.

He said the deceased succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

The body of the deceased, according to Longole, was conveyed to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination, while the trailer and the motorcycle were towed to Moroto Central Police Station.

Police said investigations into the fatal crash are underway, calling on members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the driver of the trailer to volunteer it to the police and other relevant authorities.

According to Longole, preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of the trailer, who is still at large, was joining the main road from Yaobai Cement Factory, resulting in a head-on collision without seeing the mirror.

Efforts to get a comment from the management of Yaobai Cement Factory were futile by the time of filling this report.

However, police has warned road drivers and other road users to always exercise caution when joining main roads to avoid loss of life.
