Police in Napak district are holding two men suspected to be part of the racket stealing motorcycles and alter their number plates before selling them to unsuspecting customers.
The two suspects whose names have been withheld were arrested at Kasile village in Iriiri subcounty on Sunday in a joint security operation to crack down motorcycle thieves.
Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, said that the suspects others still at large have been terrorizing the people of Napak and other parts of the Karamoja sub-region.
He revealed that during the police recovered four suspected stolen motor-cycles with Kenyan number plates, KMGJ 851W, KMGH 841X, KMGM 912X, and KMFO146Y.
According to Longole, police also recovered 28 Kenyan number plates and suspected fake logbooks.

He said that the investigations are ongoing and that the suspects would be arraigned in court.
Police are optimistic of arresting the prime suspect still at large with the help of his colleagues currently detained at Napak Central Police Station.
Longole cautioned the public to verify the particulars of motor cycles that they intend to purchase to avoid buying stolen motor cycles.
“While purchasing motorcycles from buyers one should first make agreements, provide receipts and even update the police or any local leader for emergency against,” said Longole.
He assured the public that the police are committed to crackdown the racket of thieves terrorizing the region stealing motorcycles.
