Operations have normalized at Kotido General Hospital after the deployment of new staff recently recruited by the Kotido District Service Commission.
The services in the hospital were paralyzed last week when a group of disgruntled volunteers mainly enrolled nurses and midwives laid down their tools in protest after unsuccessfully applying for the jobs.
Some of the volunteers who had spent over 20 years in the facility were unhappy about being left out of the final list of successful candidates.
However, according to a source at Kotido district, swift action by the district authorities ensured that successful candidates were issued with appointments and deployment instructions to commence work immediately, paving way for the return of normalcy in the hospital.
According to Dr. Gabriel Acheboi, Kotido General Hospital Medical Superintendent, most of the new staff assumed their duties on the 2nd of May and have been deployed in the various wards and departments, easing the pressure on the hospital.
While operations are now running smoothly, Dr. Acheboi notes that the new staff are facing a new challenge of accommodation.
Dr. Acheboi encouraged volunteers who were left out to remain committed to their work as they wait for other recruitment opportunities.
