Procedural flaw puts Bukedea district bid at risk as Ngora district leads race for for 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Teso Zone Championship hosting rights.

John Robert Osu, the USSSA zonal chairperson, Teso Zone The bidding window, which opened on January 1, 2026, officially closed on Saturday, January 31, with only two districts Ngora and Bukedea submitting bids.

He observed that Ngora District submitted a complete bid through Ngora Parents School, with Teso Integrated School named as co-host.

Both schools are based in Ngora District, and their bidding letters were duly endorsed by their respective headteachers, meeting the basic requirements for consideration.

In contrast, Bukedea District submitted a joint bid through Bukedea Secondary School and Lifeline Secondary School.

However, the bid reportedly lacked the mandatory endorsement from the headteachers of the two schools, a critical procedural requirement.

As a result, Ngora District currently stands as the only fully compliant bidder and is likely to automatically qualify to host the USSSA Teso Zone Ball Games I qualifiers.

Despite this, Osu said that the USSSA Teso Zone Executive Committee is expected to convene in the coming days to formally determine the host district.

“The final decision will be announced after the zonal inspection team conducts physical assessments of facilities at the schools and districts that expressed interest in hosting the championship”, he explained.

Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) regulations require host schools to have adequate accommodation, reliable water supply, security, sufficient playing grounds, a functional secretariat, and food storage facilities in place before approval is granted.

Last year, the USSSA Teso Zone Ball Games I were hosted by Kumi Municipality, with Wiggins School serving as the main host and Bishop Maraka as co-host.
