In a scared and joyous ordination ceremony, Bishop Dr. Joseph Eciru Oliach ordained Rev. Deacon Christopher Olupot of St. Augustine Catholic Parish Mukongoro into Priesthood on Easter Monday.
The event was witnessed by the vice president Jessica Alupo, FDC party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi (PAO), Rt. Rev. Dominic Eibu, the Bishop of Kotido Catholic Diocese, and Bishop Damiano Giulio Guzzetti of Moroto Catholic Diocese among other religious and political dignitaries
It marked a significant milestone in the spiritual journey of the ordained, who dedicated years of theological study, spiritual formation, and preparation for his sacred calling.

During his sermon, Bishop Eciru Oliach urged the new priest to remain steadfast in his sacred duties of administering sacraments, preaching the word of God, and providing pastoral care to the faithful.
He boldly told Rev. Fr. Olupot that Priesthood is a divine calling, and that he should clearly know what he has entered into.

Bishop Eciru said “Priesthood tolerates no mediocrity”, calling on the newly ordained priest to be sane and sober because he has a great task of saving God.
Fr. Anthony Kimbowa Kibira, the provincial superior of the Comboni Missionaries in Uganda, announced that the newly ordained Fr. Olupot will be assigned to serve in Italy.
“Whoever accepts to be a priest should also accept to be a victim. So welcome to a victim book,” Fr. Kimbowa said.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Vice President Maj. Rtd. Jessica Alupo Epel congratulated the new priest and encouraged him to serve with humility and compassion.
She commended the Church’s contribution to building schools and hospitals and emphasized the importance of self-value and hard work.
The Vie President urged Rev. Fr. Olupot, who has been posted in the Province of Italy with immediate effect to instill these values in the community and called upon the Diocese of Soroti to support and pray for him.

Alupo praised the Christians for the peaceful elections recently concluded, affirming the commitment to work collaboratively with the clergy for the betterment of all Ugandans.
She also presented an undisclosed monetary gift to Fr. Olupot, commending his perseverance in his studies leading to this momentous ordination.
The VP also encouraged the community to take full advantage of the ongoing rains, the reopening of schools, and government livelihood improvement programs to foster development in the Teso sub-region.
Brief facts about Fr. Olupot
Rev. Fr. Olupot was born was born on July 17, 1996, to John Olupot and Jane Amoit Olupot of Ariet-Otojima village in Kanyum county, Kumi district.
He attended Soroti Demonstration Primary School, Kabwele Primary School, St. Peter’s Seminary Madera and Mother Kevin Senior Secondary school for his A-level.
Christopher met the Combonis in Jinja for the first time after he joined Mother Kevin SSS after becoming the school’s religious prefect.
His formation journey began at Queen of Apostles Philosophy Centre Jinja, a Combonini Postulancy in 2015 where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and graduated in May 2018.
He later joined Comboni Missionaries’ Novitiate Namugongo, where he made his first profession of the Temporal Vows.
Rev. Fr. Olupot was sent to the Comboni Missionaries’ Scholasticate in Naples in Italy, where he studied theology at Jesuits’ Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Southern Italy in Naples from September 2021 and graduated in June 2024, to offer pastoral care to the faithful.
