NRM Candidates in Karenga Parliamentary Elections have breathed a sigh of relief after the Party’s Electoral Commission finally released results on Wednesday.
Candidates, their supporters as well as the voters were kept in suspense for about 3 weeks with the Commission unable to release the outcome of July 17 parliamentary elections brewing concerns over long delays.
On Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Tanga Odoi released the results from his Kyandodo office in Kampala for all 3 constituencies including the hotly contested Woman MP flag between the incumbent State Minister of Ethics and Integrity Rose Lilly Akello and rival Doreen Loe Imen.
The declaration comes after a 6 – day protracted tally held in Kampala under strict scrutiny after Karenga’s NRM District Registrar Richard Lux Lochiyo failed to handle the exercise due to pressure from candidates and their supporters.
According to the Declaration forms seen by Etoil A Karamoja, in Dodoth West Constituency, Ben Koriang Baatom polled 4, 224 votes against his immediate challenger Felix Mark Lochaale’s 3, 994 votes while Julius Dida Lodou got 3, 218 votes.
In Napore West Constituency, Dr. Tanga Odoi declared incumbent Phillips Ilukol Lokwang as the NRM flagbearer.
He polled 2, 518 votes representing 52.1 per cent to win the party flag while Fedelis Loluk Logwe received 2, 279 votes ( 47 per cent) and John Branda Logwe came third with 34 votes representing 0.7 per cent.
For Woman MP, Dr. Tanga Odoi declared state minister of Ethics and Integrity Rose Lilly Akello the victor having scored 9, 020 votes representing 51.6 per cent.
Doreen Loe Imen, her rival polled 8, 468 votes representing 48.4 percent of the total vote.
Speaking about the victory, Akello Rose Lilly thanked God saying all was possible through him.
“I want to thank God, because he has made it possible. It’s God who chooses leaders and I thank him and all voters of Karenga for choosing me,” she said in an interview on Wednesday after the results were released.
Akello However appealed to the voters and the general public in Karenga to stay calm, peaceful and united as the primary elections were already over.
Her challenger, Doreen Loe Imen described the final result as a “robbery of her victory” adding all 25 polling stations where he has stronghold were excluded from the final tally in the Minister’s favor.
She declared her intention to contest against the minister in the general elections on an independent ticket, urging voters to support her candidature.
