The 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations on Monday began smoothly in Kotido District, with schools registering 100 percent candidate turnout and no displays or irregularities reported.
Emmanuel Lokedi, UNEB Chief invigilator for Kotido district said the examination papers were delivered to all the examination centres across the district and municipality as early as 7:30 am escorted under tight security from the Kotido Central Police Station.
The students, according to Lokedi, started writing their final exams at 9:00 am with Geography Paper 1, a compulsory paper for all UCE candidates countrywide.
He said that this year’s examinations are being conducted under the theme: “Embracing Security and Holistic Assessment of Learners in a Dynamic Environment.”
According to him, the theme underscores UNEB’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process while responding to the shifting social and technological landscape in which learners operate.
Overall, there are 401 students sitting for this year’s S.4 examinations from the five centers of Kacheri SS, Panyangara SS, Kotido SS, Nakapelimoru Army School, and Panyangara Seed.
Kotido SS examination centre has the highest number of 240 registered candidates, out of which 156 are boys while 84 are girls.
At Panyangara SS, 42 students are writing their examinations, of whom 12 are girls while 30 are boys, Kacheri SS, has 43 candidates, Nakapelimoru Army School 62, and Panyangara Seed SS has 14 candidates.
Lokedi told Etoil A Karamoja that no irregularities or delays have so far been reported across the five examination centres.
Paul Kibuka, the director of studies at Kotido SS, said that unlike other years, where some candidates missed the final examinations for various reasons including pregnancy, this time round, all registered candidates from his center are sitting.
Despite the ongoing teachers’ strike, Kibuka revealed that the candidates were adequately prepared for these examinations by their teachers.
He explained that the invigilators are monitoring the examinations despite the teachers’ strike because they had agreed to do so as per the contract with the national examining body, UNEB.
