Christmas celebrations across North Karamoja were generally peaceful, with police crediting heightened security measures and public cooperation for the calm observance of the holiday.

ASP Kalisto Narucha, the Regional Community Lainson Officer, Kidepo reported that communities across the region marked the occasion with minimal disturbances as families gathered for traditional celebrations.

He said that only one accident involving the Archdeacon of Abim Archdeaconry, Rev. John Bosco Achila, who was knocked by an over speeding UPDF vehicle was recorded on Christmas Day.

Narucha explained that police and sister security agencies, working closely with local leaders, implemented intensified security operations ahead of and during Christmas day.

The measures included; increased police visibility in churches, public terminals, commercial areas, and major streets, as well as the establishment of checkpoints and strategic deployment of quick response teams to address potential emergencies.

According to Narucha, these proactive efforts helped deter criminal activity and ensured rapid response to incidents, resulting in no major peace and order concerns during the celebrations.

“The calm witnessed during the celebrations demonstrates growing public awareness of the importance of peace and lawful conduct”, said Narusha.

He added said such behaviour strengthens trust between the public and security organs and enhances preventive security measures.

“The partnership between wananchi and security agencies has become a key pillar in safeguarding peace and creating a conducive environment for social and religious celebrations,” he said.

Calling on the public to sustain the same spirit beyond the festive season, the Kotido Resident District Commissioner Charles Ichogor urged the people of Kotido to continue protecting peace, describing it as the foundation of development.

“We continue to appeal to the public to uphold peace, as it allows people to celebrate freely with friends and family without fear,” he said, adding that peace is essential for social and economic progress.

He further stressed that without peace, social and economic activities cannot be carried out effectively.

According to RDC, key sectors such as trade, transportation, social services and public service operations are continuing normally across the district, reflecting the prevailing stability.

Ichogor reaffirmed the district security committee’s commitment to strengthening security in all areas and ensuring the safety of every citizen at all times.

At the same time, the public were urged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information on any suspicious signs that could threaten peace.

“We call upon the public to report any indications of potential insecurity early, so that swift action can be taken to prevent possible harm,” said RDC Ichogor.

He concluded by emphasising that peace is a shared responsibility, calling on all Ugandans to maintain unity, calm and cooperation as the festive season continues and beyond.
