KOTIDO MUNICIPALITY: Kotido municipality is taking a decisive step towards infrastructural development by undertaking a comprehensive Shs1.4 billion roads rehabilitation project, with the money being given by the Uganda Road Fund [URF].
The rehabilitation project which is expected to be completed before the closure of the current financial year 2025/2026 will see nine roads totaling to 22.1Kms repaired to motorable state.
Among the roads include Mirerae-Napuwau road, Moruongor-Kotyang road in North division, Nangayum-Kawalapei road and RomRom-Nakutakuran road in West division.
Others roads are Chairman’s road, Business road in South division and Lokochil-Kapuyon road and Lodipdip-Losagot-Looi road in central division and Um Um-Lokore-Kotyang road that links west division and north division.
While addressing the locals of Lodipidip central division on Tuesday, during the official launch of the rehabilitation works, the Kotido municipality engineer in charge of roads Jaspher Okidi, said the roads will be rehabilitated by Good Deeds Construction Company Ltd., Arigos Agro-Inputs Agencies, and Bladina Memorial Enterprise.
The Kotido Municipality engineer, Jaspher Okidi, said the roads were identified by the division leaders based on their deplorable condition.
Okidi was quoted by this reporter as saying “the scope of the rehabilitation works include road alignment, bush clearing, heavy grading, and gravelling among others”.
He was confident that they will become mortorable and farmers and the business community will be able to access market for their produce and commodities such maize, sorghum millet and beans among others.
Meanwhile Emmanuel Okaja, the town clerk Kotido municipality said the road rehabilitation project is not only expected to boost road network but also improve access to markets, thereby bolstering the municipality’s economic activities.
“Improved roads translate to quicker and more efficient movement of goods, stimulating trade activities, “Okaja explained.
On his part, Peter Lonya, the LCIII chairperson Kotido west division chairperson, said commended government through the ministry of Works and Transport for supporting the lower local governments with Shs1 Billion for road works.
According to him, the money local governments receive from central government under Uganda Road Fund (URF) is a testimony that government is committed to enhancing road network.
Irar Peter Abraham, the Kotido Municipality mayor, urged councilors and division chairpersons to monitor the road works and ensure that substandard work is not tolerated.
He also announced plans to focus on rehabilitating bridges that link the roads in the next financial year.
However, the Kotido RDC Charles Ichogor warned the contractors against shoddy work and ensure timely implementation of the project to avoid penalties.
He also emphasized the need for the contractors to hold regular site meetings involving the municipality leadership to discuss the progress of the work.
