The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Kotido has cautioned the elements trying to destabilize peace in district that they are risking their own lives by engaging in armed criminality.
John Magezi Lukooki made the warning on Thursday following the rampant cases robbery by suspected armed Karimojong in most areas of Kotido district, in recent weeks.
Since Monday, November 3, 2025 armed thugs have carried out coordinated attacks on trading centers of Nanawat, Rom-Rom, Kamor, Napumpum and lately Rikitae robbing off cash, merchandize and several mobile phones.
Their activities have since thrown residents into panic mode but the Deputy RDC Lukooki said the security organs are closely gathering intelligence to tackle the wrong elements.
He warned desist from criminal acts urging them to embrace peace by handing over their firearms to security forces or the law will catch up with them.
Magezi said that the government is committed to usher total peace in Karamoja, citing financial support given to disarmed youth in the region for economic empowerment.
He said that so far the Microfinance Support Centre has given Kotido reformed warriors 50M to empower local entrepreneurs, foster economic growth, and promote financial inclusion. Magezi appealed to others still in the bush to desist from criminality and embrace peace.
Earlier, locals had raised concerns of fear over increasing incidents of insecurity in the district, with the most recent being yesterday’s raid on Napumpum Trading Centre.
