KARENGA: Political leaders in Karenga District have agreed to bury their political differences and work together for economic transformation.
The agreement was reached during a consultative meeting held at Apoka lodge on Friday, July 17, 2027, and chaired by the State Ministry for Ethics and Integrity Rose Lilly Akello, who doubles as the Karenga District Woman Member of Parliament.
The meeting which brought together, both Sub-county and districted political leaders, GISO, DISO, RDC, and other stakeholders, centred on service delivery, security, and a fight against corruption.
Among the issues that took centre stage during the meeting include, upgrade of Kapedo health centre III to Health Centre IV status, continued human wildlife conflict, absenteeism among public servants, completion of incomplete Seed Secondary Schools in the district.
Others are drug abuse among the youth, Cross border conflict between Karenga locals and the people of South Sudan, intimidation of local communities by the Special Command Forces (SFC) soldiers deployed at Kidepo International Airport and a joint verification of Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries.
Speaking to this publication, the State Minister for Ethics and Integrity Rose Lilly Akello said the meeting provided a platform for the district leaders to lay down a five year strategic plan that will improve on service delivery.
She highlighted the benefit of collaboration among leaders especially after intense political period, citing example of ants working together to build an anthill.
“We have decided to focus on service delivery and what is good for our people. In our district we had a tense political season and now that God has saved us from that, we can not remain in the past”, said the Minister.
Akello explained that season for politicking is over and attention should now focus on bettering service delivery, which is only possible through cooperation and unity among the leaders.
Ben Baatom Koryang the MP for Dodoth West urged all leaders and stakeholders in the district to strictly operate within their legal mandates and avoid interfering with responsibilities assigned to other institutions, warning that such interference undermines service delivery.
Loluk Fedelis Logwee, the Napore West County Member of Parliament expressed optimism in the culture of team work they are building in propelling effective service delivery to the people and spurring development, adding that they will advocate for the people of Karenga in Parliament in unison.
“We want to have the same voice as Members of Parliament from Karenga because our challenges are the same. I believe if we all gather our efforts and echoed one thing, our voices can be heard”, Logwee noted.
