Karamoja Peace and Technology University (KAPATU) located at Christ the King Parish, Losilang in Kotido Municipality is set to unveil its programs.
KAPATU, conceived in 2014 by the Catholic Church under Kotido Catholic Diocese with support from the government, is envisaged to transform conflict-troubled Karamoja and the rest of Ateker cluster into a hub of peace, productivity, technology and human capital development.
The university is set to be unveiled on November 23 2025 with President Yoweri Museveni as Founding Chancellor and the Vice President Jessica Alupo – the University’s Founding Deputy Chancellor.
It will open once the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) issues a temporary license after the unveiling on November 23, 2025 said the Deputy University Secretary, Dan Emmanuel Apeu-o at the sidelines of the press conference organized by the university interim leadership to announce its launch.
“(NCHE) will first come to give a temporally license. They will first come to assess whether we have everything in place from structures to teaching staff. We hope they cooperate,” said Apeu-o on Wednesday at the university proposed compass in Losilang.
Anchored under the values: Integrity, Justice and Peace, Quality Education, accountability and transparency, the university is aimed at correcting the historical imbalances where people who never acquired formal education will be admitted for skills programs leading to award of degrees.
Fr. Raphael Loberei, the coordinator of the university said that KAPATU will provide an opportunity for reformed warriors to enroll for employable skills but also break the cycle of negative mindset of earning a living through violent means.

Once licensed, the university will open with 6 programs including Health Sciences, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Peace and Diplomacy, Education and the School of Law from certificate to PhD with a bias on hands on training especially for the youth.
Designate Dean of Faculty Agriculture Anthony Mwije said the university will center on transforming Karamoja into a green and productive region with a view to promote food security.

According to the Kotido RDC Charles Ichogor, the unveiling on November 23, will include installation of university leadership including Chancellor, Deputy Chancellor, University President, the Council, Vice Chancellor and faculties.
Paul Lote Komol is optimistic that the university will transform the community of Karamoja and Ateker cluster at large from high poverty and unemployment levels to a productive workforce.
“I am happy this university is coming to deal with mindset of our people but also give skills to the reformed warriors in order to earn from their skills,” said Komol in an interview on Wednesday after the press conference.

Fr. Lobeerei said the key events on November 23, 2025 will include unveiling the university programs, installation of the university leadership and launch of KAPATU fundraising drive.
On April 19, it was granted an interim authority and a foundation stone was laid by President Yoweri Museveni the Founding Chancellor on July 28, 2023.
