Joint security forces in Karamoja Sub-region comprising UPDF and Anti-stock Theft Unit (ASTU) have recovered two illicit firearms in separate operations conducted in the districts of Kaabong and Amudat on Easter Sunday.

On April 2, the forces conducted an intelligence-led operation in Lorengechora village, Lotim sub-county, and seized nine heads of cattle belonging to Barnabas Logwe, a notorious raider.

This propelled, Logwe to voluntarily surrender an illegal SMG rifle and one round of ammunition, in his possession to the GISO of Lotim sub-county, who later handed it over to the security forces, on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

AIP Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Police/ASTU spokesperson confirmed the recovery of the two firearms in a press statement issued on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

According to Longole, though Logwe has surrendered the illegal gun, his cattle are still being held at 45 Battalion in Kaabong for further management.

In a separate operation, Longole revealed that the forces also recovered one SMG rifle with no ammunitions in Amudat district following Sunday intelligence led operation.

He said the illegal firearm was forcibly recovered from Phillip, Lokwala Ado, a pokot from Auskion village, Nabakotom parish in Amudat Sub-county.
