A joint force of army and police has arrested two wanted notorious Karamojong gunmen accused of terrorizing communities in Kaabong district through a series of violent highway robberies.
The suspects identified as Lotuwa Lokwang, 20, and Lochokio Lokwi, 19 all residents of Losera village, Kamion Sub‑County were rounded up in an operation conducted on Wednesday.
During the operation the duo was found in possession of an SMG rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition.
Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, said the suspects were arrested in a coordinated intelligence gathering about their operation.
He observed that the duo is accused of orchestrating a string of robberies in the Sub-Counties of Kalapata and Kamion and the neighbouring areas.
According to Longole, the suspects are currently detained in their custody waiting to be arraigned in court on offenses including aggravated robberies and possession of ammunition.
He added that the SMG rifle and 15 rounds of ammunition have been taken into government stores for safe custody.
Longole urged the community to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the security.
The residents and leaders have applauded the security for the successful arrest of the duo, saying that it brings a sigh of relief to the communities who have been living in fear.
Paulo Teko, a resident of Lochom trading center in Kasimeri Parish, Sidok Sub-County said that they have lost sleep in the area because every week they are hearing about cases of armed robberies.
Boda-boda riders and the business community are the main target and many had stopped stocking goods in fear of being attacked by the armed gunmen.
Meri Jino Teko, the outgoing LCV chairperson Kaabong was grateful to the gallant officer for netting the racket.
He called on the security forces to intensify night patrols in the areas where cases of armed attacks and robberies are relevant.
Meri observed that Kaabong district has been plagued by insecurity caused by armed Karamojong armed men who have refused to embrace amnesty given by president Museveni.
