The leaders in Napak district are mourning the demise of Napak District Education Officer (DEO), Joyce Nakoya.
Robert Abia Owilli, the Chief Administrative Officer of Napak District, said that Nakoya passed away at Mulago Hospital on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
According to him, the deceased fell sick three weeks ago and was first admitted to Matany Hospital before being transferred to Mulago, where she passed away. Owilli noted that her demise has left the district in deep grief.
Her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from educators, technocrats, sports enthusiasts, and political leaders.
Paul Kodet, the LCV chairperson Napak district described the late as a multi-talented, passionate, and self-driven educationist whose impact extended far beyond her official duties.
He highlighted Nakoya’s advocacy for both the boy and girl child education and her tireless efforts to prove education standards in the district.
Kodet said that her legacy as a transformative figure in Nakoya’s education sector will continue to inspire those who worked alongside her.
Meanwhile Denise Okori RDC Amudat District paid tribute to Nakoya’s life and work, calling her a dedicated education icon and a driving force behind re-integration of the street children into school.
The deceased according to family sources had been battling for her life in hospital for over a month, and news of her death has left them in shock.
Preparations are underway to transport her body from Kampala to her ancestral home in Matany Town Council for burial.
