KARAMOJA: Former Miss Tourism Uganda Elma Challa Kapel, from the Karamoja Sub-region, has won the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag for Northern Uganda Regional Youth Parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.

Challa was on Friday September 19, 2025, declared winner of the hotly contested race which attracted twelve candidates by the NRM Electoral Commission Vice Chairman, Jachan Fred Omach after securing 602 votes, representing 72.4 percent of the total votes cast.

Her closest rival Moses Kidega from Acholi Sub-region managed 162 votes representing 20.1 percent.

Winny Brenda Atim emerged third with 19 votes, accounting for 2. Percent while Hillary Odwee came forth after polling 12 votes, representing 1.5 percent.

John Bosco Loklit managed only four votes, Jimmy Okullo garnered only one vote while other candidates got zero votes.

Elma Challa Kapel, a daughter to the State Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development in charge of Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations and Woman MP for Nakapiripirit District, becomes the first candidate from Karamoja Sub-region to win the NRM flag for Northern Uganda Regional Youth MP.
