Kotido Elders’ Council have attributed the peace gains in Karamoja to the relentless efforts of the fallen UPDF 405 Commander, Col. David Byaruhanga.

In an exclusive interview with Etoil A Karamoja in Moroto, John Bosco Akore Ojokotau, the Secretary of Kotido Elders’ Council said that Col. Byaruhanga was behind the elder’s council campaign against road ambushes that ravaged peace gains in Karamoja between 2021- 2024 when the warriors turned guns on their leaders and peace actors.

He says that the fallen soldier gave his whole to pacify Karamoja, sometimes getting injuries from the clashes with the warriors.

To return the favour, Akore says that 100 warriors have offered to join the fight against the Allied Democratic Forces- ADF rebels alleged to have shot Col. Byaruhanga in the eastern DR Congo on Wednesday.

Akore says that the warriors have been hurting after hearing the news of the demise of Col. Byaruhanga.

Before the recent deployment to Kotido as 405 as Commanding Officer, Byaruhanga worked in Karamoja at the rank of Lieutenant where he engaged with several warriors and peace committees.

Col. Byaruhanga, 55, learnt Ngakarimojong language, made friends and earned himself a Karamojong name- Apalobokil.
