The Christians and Priests of Kotido Catholic Diocese have paid glowing tribute to Rev. Fr. Koryang Lopuli, describing him as a collaborator, mentor, teacher and passionate humble servant who dedicated his life to serve God.

Fr. Koryang, ordained on September 6 1980, as the second priest of Kotido Catholic Diocese died on Monday, September 8 2025, at St Kizito Matany Hospital due to diabetes.

At the funeral service held at Joseph Chapel the worker, Panyangara parish on Monday, there was sombre mood as family members, friends, clergy and well-wishers gathered to bid farewell to Fr. Koryang.

Rev Fr Daniel Nabuya the Vicar of Kotido Catholic Diocese said that the deceased was a very social and generous servant of God, who treated Christians and fellow priests as brothers.

“Fr. Koryanga was a gift from God treated people with love and respect, a councilor, a teacher who worked hard for the good of everyone”, said Rev. Fr. Nabuya.

On her part, Sister Jeriminah Achiro, from Morulem Catholic Parish reminisced Fr. Koryang, a servant of God who embodied deep values of modesty and service.

Similarly Rose Mary Igira, a Christian from Good Shepherd Cathedral eulogized the late as a spiritual leader and mentor who taught her how to pray the Lord’s prayer during catechism.

“The late was a mentor and a teacher to me. When I was at Kangole Girls SS he taught me how to pray the Lord’s Prayer during catechism and encouraged me to concentrate on my studies for a bright future” she stated.

Rt. Rev. Dominic Eibu, the Bishop of Kotido Catholic Diocese, said that it was worth celebrating the life of Fr. Koryang because of his dedicated service to God and the Christians.

Rev. Fr. Koryanga, whom were are biding farewell here today was a dear friend, humble man and a prayerful man of God, an exemplary leader loved by many because of his humility to mankind. I know he mentored many people. We need so many people who are kind and generous”, said Bishop Eibu.

He asked the congregation to emulate the late on generosity and mentorship and continue praying for his soul.
