Unnecessary selling of food stuff has been cited as one of the major drivers contributing to food insecurity among households in Kotido district.

This was raised by the locals during a community dialogue aimed at promoting inclusive participation and decision making at household and community level, for improved food security and reduced poverty held at Watakau parish in Nakapelimoru Sub-County over the weekend.

The dialogue organised by Church Action for Relief and Holistic Development (CAFRAHD) drew together members of the community and change agents to discuss food insecurity among households.

During the dialogue, locals observed that selling of food stuff is exacerbating food insecurity, especially among households where family heads prioritize cash income over household nutrition.

They said that while selling produce can theoretically improve income and alleviate poverty, in practice, it often leads to reduced dietary diversity and local food shortages.

Awidi Regina, one of the women said that some people sell off the food stuff in order to get money for drinking alcohol.

Agnes Nyanga one of the change agents working with CAFRAHD underscored the need for families to guard their harvest jealously in order to avert chronic food insecurity in the district.

Meanwhile, Nakapwon Apaalongole, another community member, called on food to build food storage facilities at sub-county and sub-county level to address the current food insecurity.
