Nakong, a mother of 12 children and a resident of Dangasil village, Lomodoit parishin Lolelia South was returning from Kaabong town where she had trekked to pay her child’s school fees when a stray buffalo mauled her.

Oriem further said that UWA would work with the family to identify one family member who will follow up the compensation claim.

This is just a glimpse of the problems people in Kaabong and other districts neighbouring the game parks are going through. For example the number of people killed by wildlife in Lolelia South Sub County since 2022 has reached four, according to local authorities. Oumo said this is the third person to be killed by the wildlife this year alone.

Early this year, wildlife killed Lokong Lomilo and one only identified as Lokol when the buffalos trampled on them in February and May respectively.

In 2022, another man from Kitapan parish in Lolelia South was also killed by an elephant.

Authorities of Kidepo National park are erecting a perimeter wall to fence of wildlife from neighboring communities in an attempt to curtail human- wildlife conflict.
