The black smoke has been seen from the Sistine Chapel’s chimney as cardinals hold first vote for next pope, according to the BBC News.
Nathan Williams, Maryam Moshiri, Laura Gozzi, and Sarah Rainsford who are reporting from Rome, said “we are now seeing smoke emerge from the Sistine Chapel’s chimney and it’s black”.
This means that there will be more rounds of voting tomorrow, and going forward if no decision is made.
As a reminder, the cardinals in the chapel have no communication with the outside world until a new pope is elected.
According to the BBC News, before the doors shut, cardinals took an oath in which they promised to keep secret all matters related to the vote and that whoever is elected will faithfully carry out the role.
