Bishop Rt. Rev. Dominic Eibu of Kotido Diocese, has appealed to Christians across Karamoja Sub-region to contribute generously towards World Mission Sunday, saying even small donations can help missionaries spread the Gospel and support struggling dioceses around the world.
He said the annual World Mission Sunday collection provides Christians with an opportunity to support the Holy Father’s global mission fund, which helps finance evangelisation and pastoral activities, particularly in financially struggling dioceses.
Bishop Eibu made the appeal on Sunday, October 11, 2026, while presiding over Mass to mark St. Daniel Comboni Day at Good Shepherd Cathedral.
The 2026 World Mission Sunday will be celebrated on October 18, marking 100 years since the observance was established in 1926.
Bishop Eibu emphasised that missionary work is the responsibility of the entire Church, calling on every baptised Christian to participate through prayer, generosity and personal witness so that the message of Christ reaches communities most in need.
The bishop acknowledged that Karamoja Sub-region is currently facing a hunger crisis but urged Christians not to abandon the spirit of giving, encouraging individuals, families and organisations to contribute whatever they can afford.
He said every contribution, however small, can help sustain missionary work and extend support to vulnerable communities.
Bishop Eibu, who joined the Missionary Society in 1993 and began his pastoral ministry in Karamoja, was in January 2023, appointed by Pope Francis as the first missionary bishop of the Karamoja region, succeeding Bishop Rt. Rev. Giuseppe Filippi.
