The aspirants for LCIII and Division Chairpersons in Kotido District are in frantic scramble as the nomination deadline looms.

According to the Electoral Commission Road Map, the nomination of LCIII, Division Chairpersons and Councilors will close today across the country by 5:00 pm.

With just hours to the deadline, dozens of aspiring candidates are rushing to submit nomination papers to the Electoral Commission, with officials reporting large crowds at nomination centre.

Julius Ogwang Ongom ,the Kotido District Returning Officer said that while some candidates have already been cleared, many continue to arrive late, a pattern he says is common.

Ogwang said several candidates who turn up for nominations on the last minute come with incomplete documentation, creating unnecessary crises and sparking unfair accusations of bias against the Electoral Commission (EC).

However, he explained that all the aspiring candidates who have fulfilled the nomination requirements will be nominated before the closure of nomination exercise.

“The law says that whoever enters our nomination centre before closing time must be worked on, as long as they qualify,” Ogwang remarked.

The Electoral Commission records still show NRM and independents holding the numerical advantage.

The long ques signals candidates’ readiness to contest for various elective positions in the upcoming general elections

While speaking some of the aspiring candidates who have not yet been nominated expressed optimism that they will be nominated before the deadline this evening.
