Kotido General Hospital faces a severe crisis in responding to emergency referrals after one of its ambulances was involved in an accident in Lopeei sub County, Napak district on Sunday, May 11th , 2025.
The ambulance registration Number UAY 273Y was carrying a mother who had developed complications after giving birth.
The mother who had been referred to Matany Hospital after developing complications including uncontrollable bleeding was on board with five other people including a midwife.
Although no fatalities were recorded, reports indicate that the mother’s condition has taken a turn for the worse, while the other passengers are stable.
Dr. Cerino Acar, the District Health Officer (DHO) Kotido, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the victims were quickly evacuated and taken to Matany Hospital for medical attention.
He told the Nile Post that “the condition of the mother remains unclear, and medical personnel are working to stabilize her”.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
As the investigation continues, the community is left to wonder about the circumstances surrounding the accident and the fate of the injured.
The ambulance wreckage is currently at the Lacek-ocot police outpost, awaiting assessment for potential repairs.
The incident has left Kotido General Hospital without a functional ambulance, severely impacting its ability to respond to emergency referrals.
Last year, another ambulance attached to Kacheri HC III was involved in an accident while returning from Lacor Hospital in Gulu.
