Police have arrested an infamous armed robber, Imanantireganya Alfadudu alias “Congolese”, and recovered a SAR rifle.
The suspect was arrested in intelligence-driven operation conducted in Balamu Cell, Kasangati Town Council in Wakiso district.
In a statement issued on Monday, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the police spokesperson said, Wakiso has witnessed an increase in cases of aggregated robberies, which prompted an operation.
He added that the suspect and his associates still at large, have been carrying out armed robberies in Busoga East, Busoga North, Elgon region, Ssezibwa, and surrounding areas using a SAR rifle.
According to Rusoke, upon interrogation the suspect led police to the residence of Ivulungo Bumali in Girigiri Village, Maina Parish, Mpungwe Sub County, Mayuge District, where the rifle had been hidden.
He said that the police and sister agencies swiftly rushed to Mayuge district, conducted search and condone operation in Ivulukongo’s house, during which they recovered the rifle, jacket and other house breaking implements.
Among the house breaking implements recovered include two hammers and a knife.
He revealed that Ivulukongo and his wife were also arrested and taken into custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Preliminary findings suggest that the recovered rifle was originally stolen during a robbery in Mukono in October 2024.
