IP Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson said upon reaching Tokora Trading Centre, the driver encountered a low-bed truck belonging to Polatyo Road Construction Ltd that was offloading iron bars for drainage works.
He added that in the process of trying to maneuver past the obstruction, the ambulance knocked the victim who was also trying to bypass the same truck.
“‘The traffic officers led by Sgt Erasmus Kamukama, together with officers from Nakapiripirit and Tokora Police Stations, visited documented the scene and evacuated the deceased to Tokora HC IV where he was pronounced dead on arrival”, said Longole.
The ambulance according to Longole was impounded and taken to Nakapiripirit Central Police Station for IOV inspection while driver Gabriel Loyan, 34, has been issued Police Form 94 and is currently on bond as inquiries continue.
“All relevant police units deployed to ensure the investigations are thorough and that a comprehensive report will be released soon once the investigations are complete”, Longole observed.
IP Longole said the preliminary findings indicate reckless driving as the possible cause of the road crash and urged all motorists, especially emergency vehicle drivers, to exercise extreme caution when approaching trading centres and road construction sites.
