Close to 3,000 people including malnourished children below five years, elders above 80 years, lactating and pregnant mothers are expected to benefit from Andre Foods International (AFI) food relief program.
The three- months lean season program will provide food ratios to eight sub counties in Kotido District and Municipality.
Maaru will have 520 beneficiaries, Nakapelimoru 485, Lokwakial 368, North Division 657, Rengen 329, Kanair 237, and Kotido sub county 401.
The food relief through the World Food Program is supported by China and European Union.
Margaret Nakuya, the Nutrition Officer for AFI Kotido says that the program will also benefit households that were affected by the wild fires in December and early January.
Each household in Lokwakial sub county will receive 60.5kgs in May while the other sub counties will receive 31.5kgs of rice in the same month.
In June, each household in all the beneficiary sub counties will receive 31.5kgs of rice with shs47000 and July 31.5kgs per household in all the sub counties.
Brian Oyugi, the IT assistant for lean season project with AFI Kotido said the program starts with registration of beneficiaries, verification before distribution with the aid of Parish Chiefs, VHTS and LCI chairperson.
Maria Longoli, a lactating beneficiary from Lobongia village hopes to have a healthy baby after getting the food relief.
