A 14 year-old pupil of Komukuny Primary School in Kaabong Town Council took her own life by suicide inside a dormitory early Saturday, sending shock waves to the school community.

The girl whose name is withheld because she is a minor was described as a “disciplined and God fearing leaner” by her teachers and pals.

Michele Akello, the Senior Woman teacher said the Primary Four pupil from Timy Sub County in Kaabong district had prayed with friends before going to bed and it’s difficult to imagine how she took her own life.

“We interrogated the friends who said she prayed with them on her bed. It’s not clear what happened in the night but in the morning while the other pupils were preparing for Morning Glory, they saw her dangling above her decker. She has been a quiet and jolly child at school. She was fine before going to bed,” said Akello.

Akello said the school authorities reported the matter to the police in Kaabong CPS and other stake holders were informed immediately.

She said the deceased was a beneficiary of a sponsorship by Compassion International and had never reported any distress to the matron or school authorities.

Due to the heartbreaking incident, the pupils felt scare said a teacher who asked for anonymity because he is not allowed to speak to the press, prompting management to call a general assembly to counsel the leaners.

“Everyone at school was really scared. We had to call an assembly to talk to them,” said the teacher at Komukuny Girls Primary School.

The deceased is a born of Lokinene Village, Lolinene Parish in Timu Sub County, Kaabog district.

Santina Lemukol, an aunt to the deceased called for a comprehensive investigation in to the death.

She said: “I am at School with many family members. We are here trying to collect pieces of information about her life at school. But what I know is that she has been a prayerful child and has never had a history of trauma.”

Lemukol urged the police to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

By the time of going to press, the body of the pupil had been conveyed to Kaabong Hospital for further analysis.

DPC Kaabong Hussein Musiho said investigations are underway.

“Death of a minor by hanging was reported to us this morning. A team led by the OC CID visited the scene and they are investigating all possibilities.  For now we cannot make conclusions, he said by phone.
