The Uganda People’s Defense Force-UPDF Engineering Brigade has taken over the construction of the multi-purpose building of Gulu University constituent college in Moroto district.

This development follows the completion of the compensation of 294 landlords who provided 794 acres of land for the development of the learning institution.
The construction site was handed over to the UPDF trading arm, the National Enterprise Corporation Limited, and works are expected to commence soon.
The Gulu University top management led by Vice Chancellor Prof George Ladaah Openjuru noted that the 39.9 billion shillings project is in fulfillment of the Presidential pledge to provide a higher and balanced education to students in Karamoja Sub-region.
Openjuru said that they are looking forward to strengthening education in the Karamoja sub-region and cutting the costs of learners traveling long distances to access higher education.
Theresa Mary Obbo, the Chairperson of Gulu University Governing Council stressed that the management shall be able to tap into human resources to further develop the constituent college which will teach education and agriculture among other programs.
Lt. Elias Turinomuhangi, the NEC project coordinator while receiving the site for construction promised to deliver quality work and complete the project as planned in two years.
Justin Tuko, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Moroto explained that all compensation and ground works were completed in the first phase.
The move marks the second phase for the construction of the first multi-purpose building at a project site located 10 km along Moroto-Nakapiririt road where the college owns 7086.1 acres of land in Nadunget sub-count
