KOTIDO: The police in Kotido district are holding two of their own over allegations of discreditable conduct.
The duo whose particulars have been concealed is attached to Kacheri police station.
They were arrested last week following a series of complaints raised the community accusing them of drunkardness and snatching married women.
SP Hussein Ssekalema, the Kotido District Police Commander, confirms the arrest saying that the officers are being detained at Central Police Station.
He adds that officers will be tried in the Police Professional Standards Unit, for abusing their authority.
Ssekalema condemns of the officers’ actions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining discipline and professionalism within the force.
He states that all officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct, and any officer who engages in discreditable behavior will face consequences.
Upon conviction, the officers could face penalties ranging from reprimand to dismissal from the force, according to the Police Code of Conduct.
Information obtained by Etoil A Karamoja, indicates that this is not the first time police officers in Kotido are facing disciplinary action over unethical conduct.
In March, this year, the Officer In charge (OC) Martine Ojok, was demoted to a regular police officer and consequently transferred to a police out post, after he was found drunk while on duty.
