Health Officials at Kanawat Health center III in Kotido municipality are currently managing a 10-year-old boy who presented with Mpox like symptoms.

Mpox, once known as monkeypox, is a viral infection closely related to smallpox. Initial symptoms include a fever, headache, swelling of the lymph nodes and muscle ache. A typical rash follows, mainly on the face, hands and feet.

According to the medics the juvenile who hails from Panyangara sub county in Kotido district was admitted at the health facility on the 31st August 2024 with itchy Vesicular rashes that he reportedly developed a day after eating meat from a dead goat.

Tonny Achuma the Kotido district health educator confirmed the development to our reporter saying the boy is currently isolated and receiving medical treatment from the facility as they take his samples to Uganda Virus Research Institute for analysis.

Achuma however calls for calm and vigilance from the general public urging them to report cases of persons who present similar symptoms to their area VHT’s or the nearest health facility for proper management.

Achuma also urged the general public to desist from eating game meat saying MPOX disease that has been reported in some parts of the country is widely associated with the consumption of wild game.
