The newly constructed modern restrooms at Kotido Bus/Lorry Park, Kotido municipality, are finally open for public use, nearly two years after they were constructed.

The newly constructed washroom at the Kotido park

Constructed in early 2023, by Kotido municipality, the doors to the public facility were opened for use last week.

Business operators, especially taxi drivers, passengers, touts and people residing at the park have for long struggled to find where to ease themselves, after the old pit latrine was demolished to pave way for the current facility.

The restrooms are equipped with running water, toilet paper, sandals, buckets, Jerricans, showers, and detergents like soap, and Jik.

Abdi Lorot Lokidepus, the attendant at the facility told our reporter that the municipality has put a fee of 500 shillings for both short and long calls and 1000 shilling for anyone wishing to take a bath.

Lorot, further pointed out that there are currently very few people using the facility ever since it was opened-putting the number at less than five people per day.

He however, hopes that the toilet will be put to good use when public transporters comply with the municipal’s directive to have all of them operate at the park.

A few users we spoke to at the park however, say the prices are not pocket friendly and want them reduced to 200shsillings for long and short calls and 500shillings for taking a bath.
