The police have apologized to the relatives of a man killed in an accident by one of their own staff, Corporal 48942 Geoffrey Ocen, the OC Napumpum Police Station attached to ASTU in Kotido.

Lopuk Losereng, 33, a resident of Napumpum East village in Napumpum sub-county on Saturday April 26, 2025 at around 7:00pm with a police motorcycle Registration No. UP 8977.

On the fateful day, Ocen was rushed the victim to Kotido General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries hours later.

He was then buried on Monday at his ancestral home at Napumpum East village in Napumpum sub-county.

The incident sparked bitter reactions from the family and the community in Napumpum who demanded blood compensation of Shs15 million.

Adome Lopus-Ikiny, a nephew to the deceased says they have since suffered the loss of financial support from the deceased, loss of dependency for which they are seeking for compensation.

The LC1 Chairperson of Napumpum East Village, Sadam Muhammed Lokoru, says the deceased has been the sole bread winner of his family of 7.

Speaking to the family in Nakongomutu Central Ward in Napumpum Town Board on Thursday, the Kotido Community Liaisons Officer, Calisto Longole offered unreservedly apology to the family.

He said police leadership in Kotido regrets the unfortunate incident and is taking necessary steps in helping the family.

The Kotido DPC, Hassan Ssekalema said the matter is being handled with paramount care with the family.

The case has been recorded under CRB 015/2025 of Kotido CPS.
