Terrewode, Soroti Women’s Hospital gives fresh breath to lives of Hundreds of Women devastated by Fistula in Karamoja

By Stanley Ebele

Terrewode Women’s Community Hospital nestled in the heart of Soroti City, stands tall as a beacon of hope for women living with fistula, one of the most stigmatising health conditions.

It was birthed by a then 18-year-old Alice Emasu Seruyange, who lost four of her teenage classmates to haemorrhage during or after childbirth.

Terrewode Women’s Community Hospital is dedicated to providing sophisticated fistula surgeries to Ugandan women, and women from across the region.

Their work has restored dignity, hope, and confidence to countless women, enabling them to live fulfilling lives.

One of those women is Anna Nachu, a mother of six and a resident of Lokochil in Kotido Municipality who lived with fistula for the last 24 years, as Stanley Ebele reports.
