The Outpatient Department (OPD) block at Panyangara Health Centre III in Kotido Municipality worth Shs164 million has finally been operationalized, sparking excitement among health workers and the patients.
The facility that was built in the financial year 2022/2023 has been idle since the Kotido Resident District Commissioner, Charles Ichogor, refused to commission it in December, last year due to shoddy work.
Ichogor, directed Kogated Technical Services Construction Company, which was contracted to construct the facility, to fix the defects on the floor, windows, patients’ waiting area, dispensing counter, dispensing window, and hand washing facility.
After a period of time, the contractor has finally corrected the construction defects that were identified and reported, leading to the operationalisation of the facility two days ago.
Our reporter, Stanley Ebele, visited the facility and conducted an interview with Jane Atim, the health officer in charge of Panyangara Health Centre III, as well as other community members.
They shared their thoughts on how they feel following the opening of the new facility.
Sr. Jane Atim, the health officer in charge of Panyangara Health Center III, said that the new facility is a breath of fresh air for both patients and health workers.
She explained that despite the high number of patients, the old Outpatient Department (OPD) has been struggling with a shortage of space.
Sr. Atim noted that this has been affecting service delivery at the facility, and the new OPD block will be crucial in easing the burden on the old OPD and offering improved, more efficient care services to the local community.
