Opposition Parties in Uganda are laying strategies to subvert the dominion of the ruling NRM in Karamoja in the forthcoming general elections.

The parties have started grass root mobilization alongside identification of potential candidates to compete for elective positions next year.

Whereas the NRM has officially begun nomination of special interest groups and party village LC 1 chairpersons on Thursday, the opposition parties are equally rooting for formation of interest groups.

Our reporter has been following up with the developments in the opposition camps and says that there’s actively increasing presence, especially from the main opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), Democratic Party (DP) and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

NUP’s Regional Coordinator for Karamoja, Earnest Ayen who doubles as Abim District Youth Councilor told Etoil Radio that the party is currently identifying candidates at the various elective offices right from village Chairperson to the president.

Among the positions where NUP has registered aspirants in Karamoja include, MPs for Labwor County in Abim and Napak, mayor Moroto, councilors, and Local Council Chairpersons among others.

He said the party will fill candidates to compete for various positions in Karamoja and Teso.
